• Terrain and altitude — Trails, forest floors, volcanic slopes, and mountain paths can be steep, slippery, or uneven. High-altitude trekking (Rwenzori, Mount Elgon) carries altitude-related health risks.
• Remote locations — Many of the places we visit are far from hospitals and emergency services. Emergency medical response can take hours.
• Transport and road conditions — Some roads are unpaved, and travel times can be long. Weather can affect access even to well-maintained roads.
• Water activities — Rafting, boat safaris, and swimming carry risks of drowning and injury.
• Weather — Tropical storms, flooding, and heat can affect plans and safety.
